Franklin Campbell Life Story

Franklin Pearce Campbell October 29,1954 - November 25, 2021

Franklin P. Campbell, 67, passed away on November 25, 2021. Franklin was a beloved husband, father, and prolific artist. Many knew him for his hearty laugh, raunchy sense of humor, and big spirit. Most of his professional career was spent in advertisement, working on storyboards for some of our favorite commercials. However, Franklin’s innate curiosity led to multiple passions including automobiles, music, film & television, and history.

Franklin is survived by his loving wife and dearest friend, Althea Morgan Campbell. Former husband of Adrienne Jones and partner to Michele Stutts. Father of daughters Renah Shoshannah Jones (Adrienne), Khaveri Campbell and Shmura Campbell (Michele). Stepfather to Uriah Muhammad (Adrienne). Grandfather of Kylie Muhammad, Sofia-Michele Reynaga, Layla Muhammad, and Sandro Reynaga. Big brother to Carl Campbell and Jinifir Sauer. Uncle to Nik Sauer, Leyla Sauer, Oretha Parks, Cletus Parks Jr., and Robert Parks. Brother-in-law to Michael Sauer, Bill Dennis, and Webster Morgan. Father-in-law to Antaeus M. Gayles, Nicole Billings and Roy Reynaga. Cousin of Victor Love, Tontra Love, Sushila Love, Nat Love, Daryl Love and Roni Love. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Franklin was preceded in death by his beloved mother and oldest friend Willie Mae Campbell, sister-in- law Rodeane Campbell, in-laws Cletus Parks Sr., Ella Parks and his favorite uncle, Daniel Love.

Franklin will always be remembered as a man of big ideas, an eager heart, and a spirit that always maintained its childlike wonder. He will be greatly missed.

Daddy’s Hues

By Renah Shoshannah Jones ã November 29,2021

Whatever the canvas, whatever the assignment he would crush
Just give him a pencil, marker, pen, or paintbrush Cold with it since his born day
He was In Living Color before In Living Color in every single way
A lil southern Georgia boy whose first love began with putting pencil to paper
Drawing, coloring, creating for him there was nothing greater
So much so, one of that little boy’s drawings ended up in an issue of Ebony Jr.
The offspring of the major magazine
Years later his future would be in advertising
A Storyboard Illustrator, his talents touched many brand names for commercial prints and on the screen
So dope with freehand sketching the vision drawn by him for many a shot or scene
He once worked on the Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan music video for the song JAM back in the day, TomehewasthefirstRockStarIknewhewasa big deal getting that type of play
Dad was always down for a good laugh or festive time
Surrounded constantly by his eclectic taste in music flowing to his own rhythm and rhyme Throwing art parties like Club Jump and Club Jump 2
It was the epitome of how grown art folks do Terrific art showcased on the walls by respected peers,
To party guests doing body painting on a model so novel and comical had folks in tears,
To the DJ bumpin making the bass thunder and pound
And can’t forget the skateboarders rolling all around
They were doing stunts down the hall
just outside the massive loft door
And plenty of other shenanigans it was a colorful sight for sure
In spite of his imperfections or afflictions as he’d sometimes call them when we’d talk
He was a dedicated Artist and would always walk that walk
Whether it was the poster he drew for my Clean Up Day Parade in grade school, a series of abstracts, numerous Packy Lane renditions or a simple dazzling painting of a couple dancing.
Dad was always on a mission, always romancing.
Romancing anyone who had the pleasure to lay eyes
upon his gift, his imagination
Romancing and conjuring a special titillation
He was about that Art Life professionally and for recreation.
Multifaceted and humorous, Dad was always ready with great conversation.
Holding court about the latest great book he’d read, movies he recently enjoyed or the never- ending societal ills.
Sometimes the combo of his intelligence and artistry
just gave me chills
Though Dad had his share of cutting up and misbehaving
testing our patience on many a day,
He was one of kind with his own tender way.
He loved motorcycles, he appreciated an amazing car design,
He relished a great mix of cuisines and
adored a stellar glass of wine.
He once told me he loved each woman he’d been with,
Adrienne, Michele, and Althea
During their respective time and season.
How he managed to snag them at all, he said sheer Luck had to be the reason.
After laughing at himself in a sweet moment he told me how much he loved me and my sisters Khaveri and Shmura ever so much and please darling girl please stay in touch.
So many memories of my Dad standing at an easel or at his desk working on his next masterpiece Memories of him cracking jokes, snapping his fingers
The last time I saw him, to when I was with him as a little girl at the Fine Arts Theatre vividly lingers. The birthday parties on Yates, many a BBQ with the whole crew, kickin it at Nana’s
Dad playing with the dogs Bear and Luigi barking happily going bananas.
I got to witness Dad get married in that terrific suit He was a good-looking sight
And now, it’s a lifetime gone, gone overnight
His last Act is done he no longer has to fight.
He tussled, he did his best and gave it all he could Franklin Pearce Campbell you’ve left an amazing impact and we know your heart was good
Rest well Husband, Father, Friend and Brother Palette in hand with us always In Living Color.

Dear Dad,
I wish you knew how much I missed you. That I wasn't ready to say goodbye to you. I replay our last conversation in my head a lot and I try to hold on to your advice. I try to hold on to the sound of your voice and every detail that is you.
I pray to God everyday throughout my day that your soul is free, and you are truly at peace.
I really want to thank you with my whole heart for being my dad. My soul chose yours for a reason. I love you so dearly.
