Building a Legacy
A Life Remembered
Alice loved nothing more than her family. When it came to them, there was no
hesitation—if you called, she was already on her way, like the real gangsta she
was. She had a certain fire inside and a caring spirit especially for her grandkids.
She might have cursed them out now and then, but she always had there backs
and wanted to be there for them.
Her favorite place in the world was the gravesite of her mother and father Wilbur
and Pamela Coy. Visiting them with fresh flowers was tremendously important to
her, especially on holidays. No matter what else was happening, that was always
her first destination.
When she wasn’t running around you can find her home in bed watching Stomp
the Yard or kings of comedy on repeat. She also enjoyed playing cards and
enjoying sounds from the radio known to cut a rug or two. She was tough and
hardcore, but her heart was pure. She wasn’t the most innocent person but them
intentions was always in the right place she always wanted the best for everyone
in her life.
The Golden Years
The life and legacy of Alice a.k.a (Shorty)
.
Alice's journey started on April 8th, 1963. Growing up with two loving parents
Wilbur and Pamela Coy she was known to be full of energy and laughter. As alice
grew older graduating from Academy of our Lady, a new journey started. She
had her first child in 1982, beautiful baby girl named Kristie. Followed by
Kourtney, Kristen and Kiana. Alice was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and
aunt. She enjoyed just spending time with her family. She was a worrier don’t tell
her you need something she made things happen when you felt things were
going to fall apart. She love to sing and dance and crack a whole lot of jokes.
Anything that was fun she was up for it just as long as she had her inhaler. In the
moments when she couldn’t make it she made sure it was something there to let
you know she was thinking of you. She loved to step with her brothers Leon and
dion but she was the life of the party when she danced with her oldest brother
(her twin) Micheal. She was a city girl her favorite foods was gyro cheeseburgers
and Chicago style hotdogs. Anybody that knew Alice knew that she loved her
some John b, Luther Vandross, Charlie Wilson, and the Isley brothers that was
her favorite group. Shorty became her nickname while living in Florida, and
everybody loved Shorty. She made sure everyone had what they needed. If you
didn’t have it, she made sure you got it. And if you had kids, you knew those kids
were going to have it too. The name fit her perfectly—a short little gangsta.
Don’t let that height fool you—she was about that life.
Alice was a fast walker and an even faster talker, a true go-getter. That was her
sport. The city was her field, and she was determined to score.
Her Tree of Life
In life we all have struggles Alice sure had a fair share of those, I but she had a
loving heart and did everything she could to make sure her family was happy.
Her presence was felt when she was around and if you couldn’t see her just
listen for that laugh.
Those who love her deeply:
(Stinky) Kristie Coy, (Little Bit) Kiana Coy, (Pretty Ricky) Kristen Coy, (pimpin)
Kourtney Coy, Leon Coy, Dion Coy, Sherry Coy, (Thug Life) Kayla Gilbert,
(Gangsta) Arianna Sampson, (Pearl) Jakhila Coy, (Jak Jak) Jakharri Coy,
(Chunky) Zakai Lowery, and (Granny) Kiana Harris.
Her loving family and friends cared for and loved Alice with everything in us. She
taught us how to live with her—but not how to live without her. She will always be
remembered and celebrated.
Corey, your Shorty—until we meet again.
Alice’s Superpower
We all believed this beautiful woman truly had superpowers. She made sure to
never miss a birthday in her kids’ and grandkids’ lives. She always sent a card
with exactly the number of dollars matching their age and a “gift”
She made sure she was there—physically and emotionally. And even now, we
know she is still here in spirit, watching over us and walking with all of us.
